The story

Nimrah Cafe & Bakery sits in Ghansi Bazaar, in the shadow of the Charminar, arguably the most photogenic chai stop in Hyderabad, with the 16th-century monument framed right across the road.

It was opened in 1993 by Abood Bin Aslam Al Katheri, who had spent close to 26 years learning the bakery trade before starting his own. For more than three decades since, the counter has run on the same rhythm: trays of fresh biscuits, glasses of Irani chai, and a crowd that never really thins.

Morning or midnight, Nimrah is where Old City regulars and first-time tourists end up side by side, chai in one hand, Charminar in the frame. Open from dawn to midnight, it's the definitive Charminar tea break.

What to order

SignatureIrani Chai & Osmania Biscuit

Nimrah's Osmania biscuit, crisp outside, melt-in-the-mouth, balanced sweet-and-salty, with a glass of Irani chai and Charminar in view is the complete Old City experience.

  • Irani Chai, The house draw, best had at the counter with the Charminar across the street.
  • Osmania Biscuit, The bakery's signature; grab an extra packet from the counter.
  • Bun Maska, Buttery bun that soaks up the chai perfectly.
  • Dilkhush & Coconut Cookies, Old-school bakery classics from the fresh trays.
